I doubt playing Angry Birds at that resolution will be much of an improvement. We need proliferation of 2560x1600 S-IPS panels into the consumer sector, not this.

Aren't rumors about iPads/iPhones like a dime a dozen? Oh well.

What I want is a retina display 17" MacBook Pro, 3840x2400 would just be stupid awesome.

Have fun running skyrim at 2 frames per second. Gaming at higher resolutions (as well as upscaling video) is very computationally intensive, and not something that the poorly-cooled mobile GPU in the Macbook pro will be able to handle. I want higher DPI computer monitors to make it to the consumer market, rather than being attached to mobile devices like iPads.

He is right. I for example can run All Points Bulletin: Reloaded (A hardware hungry game due to bad optimatization) at above 60 FPS in 1024x872 and only 30 in 1920x1080...

Except we have QFHD (4K) displays getting shown off this year at CES as well that we don't really need either.

Well...unless you want to watch 4K video on YT...which is like the only application for that resolution that I can think of that we have right now.

I don't think any of those will be priced at a level that average people can afford, unfortunately; if those panels cost five digits, then they might as well not exist for practical purposes. The best inexpensive high-resolution displays we have right now (to my knowledge) are Hazro's 2560x1440/1600 S-IPS panels, which actually start at $600 and are much cheaper than HP's equivalents.

That's assuming I'd try running it at full resolution instead of scaling it the crap down. I don't currently run games at 1920x1200, probably wouldn't even use that on a retina MacBook Pro. I'm one of those people who sets their graphics to med-low when the game says I could do high.

I've always used laptops, I know how gaming goes down on them.
