OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire and Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafeehave filed a petition with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration asking the agency to reclassify marijuana so doctors can prescribe it and pharmacists can fill the prescription.
The governors said Wednesday they want the federal government to list marijuana as a Schedule 2 drug, allowing it to be used for medical treatment. Marijuana is currently classified a Schedule 1 drug, meaning it's not accepted for medical treatment and can't be prescribed, administered or dispensed.

I can support that.

Perfectly normal people use it, for normal reasons and in safe quantities.

Ok let's get serious guys. The medical benefits of marijuana are NEARLY MINIMAL. I only support medical marijuana in a controlled environment or as an extract. Smoking it? No. Bullshit.
And one shouldn't rely on marijuana to "relax." I won't try making a metaphor to describe it, but it's a fucking stupid argument.
Marijuana has very little medical uses, but does help chemo patients deal with nausea in very small doses. Therefore, I only support this if they use a delivery system other than smoking it. Just because you want to "relax" and turn into a vegetable doesn't mean that everybody within a 20 foot radius of you wants to.

Anyway, I don't so much care what's used for medical purposes. There are a lot of prescription drugs that can cause more damage than marijuana when abused. But that's the thing, (most) people don't abuse those, whereas proponents of medical marijuana see it as recreational. Hell, that's another thing that worries me right there: The number of proponents who admit to being users.Of course you want it legalized, you already smoke it illegally. Seems like you might be a little bit biased there.
On top of that, I know for a fact that its distribution is not being monitored as well as any other prescription drugs. How, you ask? Rumors of those in charge of the stock just walking out with it? People claiming that they just walked in, claimed to have joint pain and walked away with a joint? Well, yes. That and my cousin moved to California, got a job as a "budtender" and openly brags about doing exactly that.

Yeah, the thread isn't about full legalization, but we all know the whole prescription pot thing is just a first step toward that in the minds of a lot of its proponents.
