Whoa. How much does it cost?

"Do not pray for easier lives, my friends... pray to be... stronger men."
John F. Kennedy, Call of Duty: Black Ops
"Wait a moment, before you go. I... we... hope you've enjoyed your stay. Farewells can be a time of sadness. Letting go, difficult. As a guest of the Sierra Madre you know that truth more than anyone. Frederick Sinclair believed that one's life could be made anew every day. That fortunes were more than the wealth in your hands. Love. Life. Family. Those to care for and those who will care for you. To those who know these joys, the Sierra Madre holds little they don't already have. Out in the world, beyond these walls, that is your chance to begin again. I hope that you will return in happier times. Until then the Sierra Madre, and I, will hold you in our hearts."
Vera Keyes (deceased), farewell broadcast to the Courier upon leaving Sierra Madre
Progress doesn't come from early risers — progress is made by lazy men looking for easier ways to do things.
Specialization is for insects.
You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once.
You live and learn. Or you don't live long.
Your enemy is never a villain in his own eyes. Keep this in mind; it may offer a way to make him your friend. If not, you can kill him without hate — and quickly.
Robert A. Heinlein

I'm not going to be surprised if it'll cost a couple grand to get a single chip.

I doubt it'll be even close to the 200 dollar price range..... :/
But as soon as it drops in price, which shouldn't take too long, I'm defo buying this.
32GB of RAM.... imagine how many programs you can run simultaneously (assuming not all of them are using your CPU for something). I'll never have to close a window again.

The 1000-core processor, now this.
What's next?

My dad got a haircut today. I told him not to! Now it's even harder to tie a bow in his hair! He said he asked the person giving the haircut to just cut his hair a little, but she ended up cutting it much more than he wanted her to. Ugh, women can't do anything right. They really should stay in the kitchen.

Are huge jumps like this normal in PC hardware development? I haven't ever seen such big jumps as in the past 2 years (with exception of the GPUs which always get insane performance increases with every year). Instead of going from a 3.2 GHz single core to a 3.4 Ghz dual core or a 512MB RAM to a 1GB RAM (that's a potential doubling in performance, not taking into account any other hardware) in a matter of years.
We now see jumps from quad cores (octa cores and 16-cores are rarely used in the consumer market right now) to 48-cores and 1000-cores and 4GB RAM to 32GB RAM. The potential performance increase is insane (potentially more than 800%). It'll probably take a while before those 48-cores and 32GB RAM sticks will hit the market (at a decent price), but when they do, hoooooo boy.
I'm still waiting for the release of a 516TB SSD, though. :V

Only problem is you have to make sure your OS can even support it. Using any more than 6GB in my laptop with Windows 7 32-bit would be absolutely pointless.
