As for myself, I have my own reasons and maybe I'll post them later if people actually talk in this thread. lol

Do you have the courage to traverse the world where the line between Reality and Fantasy is blurred? The Tales of the Unknown calls you...

As a guest of the Sierra Madre you know that truth more than anyone. Frederick Sinclair believed that one's life could be made anew every day. That fortunes were more than the wealth in your hands. Love. Life. Family. Those to care for and those who will care for you. To those who know these joys, the Sierra Madre holds little they don't already have. Out in the world, beyond these walls, that is your chance to begin again. I hope that you will return in happier times. Until then the Sierra Madre, and I, will hold you in our hearts."

This is one of the reasons why I think being attracted to drawn girls is fine, because it's being attracted to a piece of art. I'm not only attracted to the female body, but I always pay attention to all the details that can make a picture great. Sometimes, like stated earlier, I can't really explain why sometimes.

I however like real life women. Not drawn women. I don't how someone could fall in love with a fictional character. Though I'm not them. So I suppose I could never answer that question.
When you think about it you can sympathize for a fictional character. I'd assume if you drop the boundaries and ignore the fact they aren't real I guess it'd possible to fall in love them.

As for my own reasons, well... I'm just as human as the next guy. I'm not going to pretend that I have some highly intellectual or noble grounds for being attracted to fictional portrayals of women. I just have a sex drive as much as the next guy, and there's a certain degree of fetishism involved in having a sex drive, no?
So I made a tumblr dream log for a friend of mine, but then I realized that all I dream about is nerdy stuff. BUT THAT'S NORMAL FOR DOUJINSTYLE SO YOU SHOULD HAVE A READ

Another thing is I don't need material at all when I fantasize about one of two particular fetishes of mine. Everything else I do.

For example, to make a good erogae you need...
1.An excellent artist
2.An excellent seiyuu
3.An excellent scenario writer
It's combining the best of three people's skills, they can create a character in a situation which is truly appealing.
"perfect" body, Incredibly erotic voice, and then a scenario which leads up to the event, all which adds to the overall experience of it.
A real girl in a normal situation cannot simulate any of these.
Also, as of recent it's harder for otaku guys to get girlfriends. After that they either become afraid and draw back into the 2D world where they don't need to worry much for finances, emotional problems, and commitment. The 2D world will always be there for them so long they have the means to view it.
In terms of features of characters, its all up to personal taste. Certain features which attract your undivided attention.
If you want me to post some personal analytical examples I can.

People are into slightly different traits in these females, which is why there is a common variety of girls in anime. Take K-ON! for example - you have a loli, a quite/shy/clumsy girl, a hyperactive -centre of attention- girl, ultimate cuteness beyond sense girl, and a mature tsundere (sort of). The characters are designed to trigger certain emotions towards the watcher, which usually leads to the love and obsession of that character.
Also, for the record:

It's just character design + my personal eye.
For example, here are a few images from my favorite artist Inugami Kira.
http://oreno.imouto....antsu-seifuku-s
http://oreno.imouto....ymphony-pannya-
http://konachan.com/...-seifuku-skirt-
To some, this may look like you average cute bishoujo character, that's totally fine.
But to me, there a few key things in detail which draws my attraction towards the imagine.
1. The eyes. The attention and brushwork put fourth in creating solely the eyes is great. Inugami's sty;e is to use incredibly dark, (however not black) colors for the eyes of her characters. The eye color pretty much stands out to the whole image. Also, you will notice the intensive brushwork in creating the eyebrows.
2.Fashion sense. All of her characters have attention to clothing. You can tell that much work has been put into it. From frills on clothing, to tiny accessories. I'm not certain whether this is fact or not, but one may guess that Inugami has studies fashion design at least at a basic level.
3.The hair. Look at her style and how she does the hair on her characters. She always puts dark highlights on the edge of the character's hair to contrast the bright lighting. And she's also got lighting right. The fact that if light shines from above, the hair on the innerside would be darker,
Anyways, all these things compiled together make me love Inugami's art. This is just personal preference, and I'm sure everyone has their own tastes in terms of character design.
I wouldn't call these aspects a fetish or anything of that sort, It's more or less what personally grasps my attention and what makes get that burning sensation inside.
Now, I'm not a complete 2D enthusiast, but I do have high appreciation for it whether it is in purely artistic form or H.

However, your avatar is one of my favourite pics I've seen on DS. I just have to stare at it every time I see it.
[hint]If you have the original, I'd very much appreciate it if you could post it, so I can wallpaper it or something!

It's probably because our brains after years of sexual imprinting connect certain colors, forms and words with something sexual and then we get aroused. It has probably has to do with the same reason why an experiment I read about once worked well.
Basically, a scientist had a theory and invited some people for a banquet. When everyone had arrived, the scientist turned the normal lights off and turned some neon lights on. Now all the meals had strange, unusual colors like blue bananas for example. Nobody ate anything as long as the neonlight was on. It was later explained that it has probably to do with the connection our brain makes to the colors of food and that the colors of the meals made the guests brain consider that the food is moldy.
There has to be more to it than just the colors, but it's definitely an important part. Usually we find humans then attractive, when they look very healthy. 2D anime characters often look healthy, nobody draws them with eyerings or an ill, pale skin. Unless it's a story element, that is. We probably wouldn't find a 2D girl attractive if it had a neon-green, flashy color or a zombie skin (and as usual, there are exceptions to this).

I think this is quite sad. and I also think that the reasoning behind otakus not being able to get GF's is because alot of them are ONLY attracted to 2D girls - or only look for perfection within a partner because of what the 2D world puts out there. there is never an imperfect girl, but in reality noone is perfect. otaku's can often have high standards for themselves because of this and not just accept a girl for who she is. attractiveness isn't everything in the world.
I also don't see how people can get aroused to 2D and that's very ignorant of me since I used to enjoy futa but not on irl people. but I think i liked futa because it was a fantasy and i never wanted it in reality. and thus, i can understand weird fetishes like that in H but not in real life. - I don't see how this can relate to just a normal-drawn girl, who is perfect in everyway. does this mean that some people perhaps want to have a perfect girl in fantasy but not reality too? i don't think my (old) situation and this relate.
does not like H anymore tho, for along time now. does not like irl porn either. I've found my imagination to be the best way forward when it comes to such things.

I'm with you on that one. Pornographic poses usually turn me off. Especially when the actors are trying extra hard or speaking with a lusty voice. That is so horrible and cliché.

But the main key points are;
-Escapism from reality
-Enjoying that "perfection" that otherwise isn't possible IRL
And probably a long shot, but influence is a big factor. I mean if I didn't get influenced by subbed anime at a somewhat young age, I wouldn't be downloading copious amount of animoo like I am right now and probably won't have a H-folder (I don't have it on my current HD, but I think I still have it on my spare 500gig) and like the general 4chan rules that are 34 and 63 (Porn of anything regardless, and genderbent versions of everything)
I reckon those three points in summary give a general answer to the OP question without much detail.
Also typing a meaningful answer at midnight after work isn't the best idea.
