<補記>
実際のところを申しますと、モチベーション低下の一番の原因は私自身がシューティングゲームから完全に身を引いてしまったことなのだろうと思います。

Goddammit. Finding a download of the trial is very pretty much impossible, just like Rockmen R: Dr. Wily's Counterattck... f*ck. Well unless some who still has the demo can put up for download, I don't think anyone will play this in any shape or form anymore... =_=+

the hell? this game shows so much promise too. they were even adding character dialogues, so they must have gotten quite far, but to quit now? damn it, its Gradius VI all over again.

Thanks for the demo Formless God. :3
And for the developers of Stella Vanity: I hope you're all ashamed of yourselves for turning down a game with great potential... =_=

What a sad bit of news. I tried one of the very early demos and it showed a lot of promise; I was looking forward to the complete version, like everyone else.

The best-case scenario, should the developer never resume, is that the project is adopted by another circle, like what happened with Hellsinker, I believe.

The difference with Hellsinker is that Ranyon was pretty much one of the few members of Inudon Empire (sp?) so he was able to carry on and finish the game 4 years later. And damn if it wasn't worth BUT...

What the fuck? Seriously, the game promised so damn much, it even has scoreboards and all the dice...

What the hell happened? I had a bad feeling when the game changed so much from trial to trial. In fact, I would encourage the dude to release a game with the original scoring system, 3-4 stages but containing the full songs or something.

Did he suddenly feel sad or something with the current state of things? First Vampirish Night got destroyed by shitty retard people harassing the dev and now this! Crimzon Clover better come out or I'll be really sad, jeez!

I don't know what to think... I wish this was an April's Fool!

Ah so that's how it was. So Ranyon is part of Ruminant's Whimper, then? I always thought that none of the original developers were part of that circle. Everything regarding Hellsinker and Radiozone is so confusing.

Anyway, I wonder if sending the Stella Vanity developer words of encouragement would do any good..

Don't we all wish it was just some cruel April Fools joke? This would of rivaled the likes of Blue Wish Resurrection Plus or another x.x game or other doujin Cave shooters if it was planned for a freeware release. The Feather Ether front page did say there would be some sort of announcement this month, but I would assume the bad news is the announcement.

I hope for your sake, someone else would take over Stella Vanity and finish where they left off. I just hope players of Stella Vanity aren't spamming them with angry hate mail that would make them have second thoughts of resuming the game's development (I'd probably would do just that, but I've vented some of my anger already).

Yeah, everything in Hellsinker is surreal, its development included. Suffice to say the guy definitely had the strong will and determination to finish it.

I did mail the developer of Vampirish Night about his game but, despite all the encouragement, he felt really bad and disappointed to continue his activities. The guy was way too serious so he didn't appreciate all the western flame that rained upon him... But having releases cancelled on a niche genre is definitely very, highly, painful.

Anyway, yeah, mail him. I don't know if he will reply to english mails though, see if you can get someone with japanese knowledge to send one. I'll do that too soon.

this might sound silly but if they have abandoned it forever, are we (or anyone skilled enough) allowed to pick it up and finish the game ourselves? I mean if you're not going to finish making the game, we'll do it. Or is there all those copyright stuff preventing it?

I would imagine copyright being one of the issues; the other being that I don't think the game is open source (haven't checked), meaning that it would probably take quite a bit of work, if it's even possible, to get everything to the point where the game's development could be continued.

If it's in C++ or something accessible like that, someone (but it would have to be a japanese dude I guess) could ask him for the project files and, by properly crediting and probably sharing a cut of the sales if it eventually ends up finished, carry on with development...

But I think it's too early yet. We never know if from now to the next years the guy eventually restarts, reworks or reboots the whole thing. This is the pity with doujin games. Instead of companies going bankrupt or being absorbed by hentai tentacle monsters, err, I mean, huge corporations and then being dismantled from the inside (like Blizzard is slowly suffering with Activision, and like it always happens when the big one absorbs smaller companies to destroy them), here we are talking of regular people who might suddenly have depression or see a dark future or just cannot continue anymore, etc., etc.

In short, hoping one day the guy comes back or something.

Ah yeah, adopting the source is another option; I just assumed it was ruled-out though.

Yeah, that kind of reminds me of Artesneit and Galshell 2: Blood Red Skies, where the game was being actively worked on in 2006 before subsequently becoming nothing more than a near-abandoned side project for four years while the guy worked on other games, like the Yakouga series. This year he suddenly returned to the game, completely revamped it, and is set to release a new demo this coming Comiket.

Oh god don't remind me of the destruction of Vampirish Night. I was angry for about a week afterwards after hearing it got cancelled.....
I'm hoping Stella Vanity will still come out somewhere in the future...

Well, let's remember Project Reflection was postponed for almost 10 years (1997, as Reflection, 2002 or earlier, or was it 2004, for the revamped version called RefleX, late 2008 for the final release) before Siter Skain could finally wrap it up.

And the project I'm helping as a translator was originally released back in 2004 but the guys decided to "power up" the whole work and re-release it... even overseas, by themselves and via Amazon. (it's not a shooter, it's a VN... but I'm eventually seeing if I can convince them to make a shooter, lol)

Something that wasn't mentioned anywhere was that icewind (the creator of Diadra Empty) was working on an action game but he apparently cancelled it as well (or postponed it indefinitely), which is a pity because both Toki No Akuma (the action game with a Gradius-like power up system) and Diadra Empty are excellent.

Stuff gets cancelled or postponed a lot but, yep, we never know. Guess we can only hope TRIS-GRAM good luck. I really like the music of Stella Vanity. If anything, I hope to see an album by him!
