Yeah I would definitely pay $1 per month, I am interested in the Comiket thing, since I know a lot of Doujin Shmups are released then. How soon are you talking on this? A day after you can download? Anyway, great idea. I know sites that would charge much more for this service.

No, not as far as I'm aware of. He did say that for $1 a month, it'd be faster DLs.

Probably a day or so after, yeah. Not sure exactly yet, as we're still talking about this. We're also discussing how exactly we want to set up the server so that it serves everyone quickly and without lag.

Um...that just destroys the point of the site.
It makes it pay to download.
For example:
Case 1:
One person pays for download and uploads the file to mediafire/megaupload/etc so everyone can download it, therefore no one pays for download because someone will upload the file anyways making this system dont work.
Case 2:
One person pays for download but dont upload it to another site. There are no free/new downloads for comikets on the site and it becomes pay for download.

the admins find the real files in comiket realese time and storage htem in an payment room.
they will get an admission to megaupload/any afflicated upload site with the membership speed. (mostly known as premium/gold speed)
anyways, yes you can of course go find them yourselve , and htey will not leave DS... as said the user upload the files, but it odesnt mean they got moved osmewhere else, so payers only can get the fingers in them... they just try to make everything easier for us.

Should be, yes. I suspect there will be options to choose how long you want the VIP status to last.

It will not leave DS, that's correct. And if they get moved at all, it'd be to our servers that hosts the downloads itself. And yes, we're trying to make things easier for everyone. Who wants to spend lots of time looking for specific stuff when you can just come to one location and check and see if it's there?

We came close to losing the DS server this month. :/ Only through very fast footwork, so to speak, and $100 donation from Holy himself, was I able to prevent the server from going offline due to unforeseen emergency situation.

Wasn't entirely happy about nearly losing the server. But I managed, thanks to Holy, to keep the server from going offline.
Things should go back to normal after this month. :/

anyways.. i meant you gonna note it down , who pays, and if it happens that there is ont many, then it is easier for you to know who have payed. (like 100 emails everyday XD)

Oh. Yeah, what happens is that when people donate or pay, they're automatically put into the VIP group. It's perfectly doable. It's just the server that's going to take a little more work to do.

I'm neutral on this topic, since I don't download much aside from ZUN's new games and albums. However, I would recommend that if we do decide to do this that we should still allow users to upload files in topics as it is now. The $1 would make the difference between scanning topics, looking for a somewhat reliable link and being able to search through a highly organized archive for guaranteed quick downloads.
Basically, we shouldn't block the free download option.
